Is GTA San Andreas VR Finally Dead?

The news released from Meta yesterday doesn’t look good

We finally got the news that we have all been dreading, Meta confirmed to IGN last night that the Quest port of GTA San Andreas has been “suspended indefinitely”.

We all saw this coming, since its announcement in 2021 we have had absolutely no news on the progress of the port but still its disappointing to hear. The full statement was as followed:

“GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects. We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”

So maybe there is hope for a revival in the future but don’t hold your breath.

This is what San Andreas could have looked like

I love Rockstar as a developer but their attitude to VR in the past couple of years has been baffling. Not only have they cancelled San Andreas VR after receiving a lot of funding from Meta, they actively destroyed the Luke Ross VR mod for GTA 5 for no apparent reason.

What if I really want to play San Andreas in VR?

If you have a decent PC, then there is still hope. Its not perfect but there is a way you can play San Andreas in VR.

The UEVR toolkit released a while ago has made this possible. All you need is the Definitive Edition of the GTA Trilogy and the UEVR mod kit. There is a fair amount of set up involved and it is not perfect but this is the best we have for now.

If the story ever changes we will be the first to let you know, but its best not to hold your breath for this one.
