We all know PSVR 2 is meant primarily for gaming, and the 3D effect when you play games is incredible. Also the first iteration of the PSVR supported 3d movies. This might have led you to believe that the PSVR 2 would have no issues with 3D Blu Rays, but surprisingly you can not watch movies in 3D using the PSVR 2.
Why doesn’t PSVR 2 support 3d Blu Rays
The reason why is not due to the limitations of the PSVR 2 but instead because of the PlayStation 5 itself. Despite Sony being the creator of the 3D Blu Ray format, they opted not to support it with PlayStation 5 console. That is not to say that the PlayStation 5 is not capable of playing 3D movies, but support for them was dropped in 2020.

Will the Playstation 5 ever be updated to support 3D movies?
Unfortunately it does not look like we will be getting 3d movie support for the PSVR 2 any time soon. In an interview for Japanese website AVWatch with Sony’s Yasuo Takahashi, the man who led the development of the PSVR 2, he stated that Sony has no plans to update the console with 3D Blu Ray support in the future.
So whilst it is an option to update support, it does not look like it will be happening, for now at least.
Considering the high price of the PSVR 2, and the plethora of entertainment options available on competing devices, this does seem like an odd move from Sony. Bungling what should be an easy win for them.
