Mojang announced the news today

Mojang has announced that Minecraft will no longer support PlayStation VR (PSVR) after March 2025. Although PSVR functionality was introduced in a free update in 2020, the studio states it can no longer support it, as detailed in the 1.21.30 Bedrock release notes. Players will still receive updates for Minecraft on PlayStation, but without VR functionality.

Here is exactly what Mojang said:

“Our ability to support PlayStation®VR has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025. After you receive the final update, you will still receive updates on your PlayStation® and be able to play without PlayStation®VR. From this point on you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation®VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.”

With this announcement there is no longer any official VR support for Minecraft from Mojang

This move mirrors past decisions by Mojang, such as ending support for Gear VR in 2020 and delisting the Rift version in 2021. The discontinuation likely reflects a declining PSVR userbase. While a PS5 version is in beta testing, support for PlayStation VR2 remains uncertain. Meanwhile, unofficial mods like Vivecraft and QuestCraft provide VR options for PC players using the Java Edition.

The gaming community has long expressed a desire for more official Minecraft VR support across platforms, given how immersive the game’s blocky worlds become in virtual reality. While unofficial mods like Vivecraft and QuestCraft allow players to enjoy Minecraft in VR on platforms like PC and Quest, many fans would prefer a more streamlined and fully-supported experience from Mojang.

Official VR support would ensure better integration, optimization, and continued updates, making Minecraft a go-to VR title. The discontinuation of PlayStation VR support is a disappointment for many, especially as there’s growing interest in virtual reality gaming across newer platforms like PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest.
